Highlights from the exclusive Active Learning Workshop for international students under the Semester 5 transfer program of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University, in collaboration with ECAM LaSalle, France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This activity focused on cultivating a \u201cCross-Disciplinary Engineering Mindset.\u201d Thai students and exchange students from ECAM LaSalle took part in a study visit and workshop at Kasetsart University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Bangkhen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students were given the valuable opportunity to apply their engineering learning and thinking to the field of veterinary medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connecting Anatomy to Biomechanics:
Students visited veterinary operating rooms and anatomy laboratories to study the forms, structures, and forces within animal bodies \u2014 transforming veterinary surgical challenges into structural engineering problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lessons from 3D Printing and Mechanical Testing were put into real clinical practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bone Reconstruction & Structural Design: Students learned the design and fabrication process for 3D-printed implants used to replace fractured bone components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experimental & Mechanical Testing: They studied how 3D-printed models of fractured rabbit tibias and femurs are created for mechanical testing and for comparing different splinting methods before applying them to real animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full-Scale Patient-Specific Modeling: Students analyzed the process of designing pelvic splints for dogs using life-size (1:1 scale) 3D-printed models, enabling veterinarians to plan surgeries with higher precision and reduce risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surgical Training Innovations: They explored the development of medical training aids, including organ models, surgical instruments, and simulated canine dental sets, to help improve procedural skills before real clinical practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understanding Animal Welfare and Biological Systems:
Students examined veterinary learning materials and animal-body simulators, while also learning animal-handling techniques. This helped them understand the real-world context of veterinary practice and ensure animal welfare standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This workshop not only broadened students\u2019 perspectives on applying engineering design, materials, and fabrication skills in the biomedical engineering industry, but also encouraged a meaningful exchange of technological perspectives between Thai students and students from ECAM LaSalle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
