International Undergraduate Program (IUP)

In 2003, the Faculty of Engineering of KU established its International Undergraduate Program (IUP) with the aim of producing professional engineers not only with technical knowledge and skills but also with English communication skills who could readily meet that growing need. To date, we have produced thousands of graduates since our establishment, while currently we have over 800 students enrolled in our programs.

Programs offered

At present, we offer six international undergraduate degree programs, namely:

The program emphasizes not only the fundamentals of engineering disciplines, but also practical aspects of the engineering profession including Automotive Engineering, Renewable Energy, Design and Manufacturing, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Dynamic Systems Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering and Rail Engineering.

Emphasis during the freshman and sophomore years is on mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawings, and general engineering sciences. The junior and senior years are devoted to mechanical engineering topics including thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, automatic control and mechanical vibrations, design and manufacturing, and practical applications of fundamentals to diverse problems of mechanical engineering. In the final year, students can choose a set of high-level technical elective courses from the seven mechanical engineering specialty areas, including:

  • Automotive Engineering
  • Renewable Energy
  • Design and Manufacturing
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Dynamics System Engineering
  • Fire Protection Engineering
  • Rail Engineering

This program aims to produce graduates with the knowledge and skills in software and knowledge engineering as well as experience in extensive practical work. Students have several opportunities to gain practical experience through cooperative or internship programs, as well as project-based learning. Every year, the eXceed Camp – an intensive software development camp in an open environment for developing technical and social skills – is held during the summer of the program’s second year.

In addition to general engineering courses, students in this program are required to take the following courses:
•    Fundamentals of Software and Knowledge Engineering
•    Software Development and Project Management
•    Software Quality Assurance
•    Usability and Computer-Human Interfaces
•    Fundamentals of Computer Science, including Theory, Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Operating Systems and Networking

Elective Specializations under the Knowledge Engineering program include:
•    Natural Language  Processing  and Intelligent Info System Technologies
•    Data Analysis and Knowledge Discovery
•    Innovation and Knowledge Management
•    Multi-media Analysis and Discovery

Energy Innovation and Intelligent Robotics

In this new program (established in 2019), students will select to study in one of the following two tracks:

  • Energy Innovation track: This is aimed at training our students how to apply new technologies to efficiently manage the way we utilize energy in homes, buildings and manufacturing. An energy management system with hardware and software will be developed. In addition, energy conservation measure development, renewable energy applications, and the internet of things (IoT) are also provided
  • Intelligent Robotics track: In this track, the basic components for building robots are focused on in order to train our students to become robotics engineers with skills in hardware design, manufacturing (CAD, CAM and 3D rapid prototyping) as well as robot artificial intelligent (AI). AI classes will focus on cutting edge technologies such as computer vision, deep learning and machine learning.

The Environmental Engineering Program was designed to focus on prevention and minimizing the adverse effects of pollution created by human activities on the national, regional and global scales.

Major topics of teaching and research in the program include:

Design of conventional and advanced water and wastewater treatment
Integrated systems for solid and hazardous waste management
Control of air pollution, noise and vibration
Remediation of contaminated land and subsurface
Environmental management tools for organizations such as environmental impact assessment, environmental risk assessment, and environmental management systems.

Depending on the selected program, students are required the successful completion of 144 to 150 approved credits to graduate and earn their Bachelor’s degree. This normally takes four years to complete. One credit in the Thai crediting system for higher education is equivalent to 1.5 ECTS credits in European countries or 3 credits in the England/Wales/Northern Ireland crediting system.

Tuition Fees
