Congratulations to Assistant Professor Dr.Putchong Uthayopas, who received the Asia HPC Leadership Award at “SupercomputingAsia (SCA) 2021”, an annual conference encompassing an umbrella of notable supercomputing and allied events in Asia, which was organised from 2 to 4 March 2021. The event was held as a virtual conference due to the covid-19 pandemic and was co-organised by HPC (high-performance computing) centres from Singapore, Japan and Australia.
Dr.Putchong is the first person in Thailand who has received this award in recognition of his pioneering work in pushing Asia’s HPC sector to advance and develop a vibrant HPC ecosystem. It also shows that HPC research at Kasetsart University is internationally recognized.
Dr.Putchong has been working in the field of HPC and information technology for more than 30 years. He is the founding Director of the Thai National Grid Center, under the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (2006-2008). He also served as the President of the Computational Science and Engineering Association (Thailand) from 2013 until 2015. In 2012, the Engineering Institute of Thailand awarded Dr. Putchong the Distinguished Computer Engineer award in Systems Integration for his contributions in grid, HPC, and cluster computing work.
