Global Classroom in Action — Where Engineering Connects France × Thailand × Medicine

Under the Semester 5 Transfer Program, a collaboration between Kasetsart University and ECAM LaSalle University, France, another exciting international learning experience has begun in the Interdisciplinary Project course.

Twenty students from ECAM LaSalle are working side by side with 20 Thai students from five programs in the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University:

  • Mechanical Engineering (ME)
  • Electrical-Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (EMME)
  • Digital Manufacturing and Robotics Integration Engineering (DMRIE)
  • Electrical Engineering (EE)
  • Industrial Engineering (IE)

All 40 students recently visited the Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics, Faculty of Medicine of Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University (SSPO).

This was much more than a study visit. The students attended lectures by experts, explored how engineering knowledge and technologies can be applied to medical science, and gained hands-on experience with real research equipment, including a motion capture system. These experiences allow them to better understand real-world challenges before bringing together their knowledge and cross-disciplinary perspectives to develop their collaborative projects.

This is the heart of the Interdisciplinary Project — learning that goes beyond the boundaries of academic disciplines, nationalities, and classrooms. It provides students with the opportunity to work in international and multidisciplinary teams while applying their engineering skills to real-world challenges alongside experts from other fields.

For our Thai students, this is an opportunity to work closely with fellow engineering students from France throughout the project and gain meaningful international experience without having to wait until they study abroad.
