Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kasetsart University welcomes ICOMA Inc. (Japan) for Knowledge Exchange on EV Technology and Fabrication

On 13–14 November 2025, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University, in collaboration with the Kasetsart University Technology Acceleration Program (KU-TAc) and Leave a Nest Singapore, welcomed representatives from ICOMA Inc., a startup company from Japan and developer of the foldable electric motorcycle TATAMEL BIKE. The activities were conducted under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Ekathai Wirojsakunchai, along with faculty members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

During the visit, specialists from ICOMA conducted workshops and knowledge exchange sessions with students and researchers of the department, focusing on fabrication techniques for electric motorcycles. The activities included demonstrations of the design and manufacturing processes of the TATAMEL BIKE, highlighting fabrication methods that combine sheet metal and 3D printing to enable small-batch production without molds and allow for practical customization. Hands-on sessions were also organized, in which participants assembled TATAMEL BIKE capsule toys and plastic models, tested the actual vehicle, and provided feedback for product improvement, contributing to engineering design and user-centered development perspectives.

The visit also facilitated discussions on potential areas of cooperation between ICOMA Inc. and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, including electric vehicle technology, manufacturing and fabrication processes, mechanical design, human-centered engineering, industry–university collaborative research, and the development of learning platforms based on real-world engineering products. The activities provided students and researchers with opportunities to observe and engage with international-level technology and to understand the end-to-end process of product development.

ICOMA Inc. is a Japanese startup specializing in the development of the TATAMEL BIKE, a compact foldable electric motorcycle designed using sheet metal and 3D printing techniques to enable mold-free production and user-oriented customization. The collaboration with KU-TAc and Leave a Nest Singapore supported the exchange of technological knowledge and strengthened connections between academia, startups, and industry.
