Real-World Aerospace Engineering Learning through the Design-Build-Fly Process

On September 12 and 13, 2026, the Department of Aerospace Engineering welcomed teachers and students from Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit Demonstration School for a learner development program entitled “Design-Build-Fly (DBF) Aerospace Engineering Learning: DBF-RC Airplane.”

The activity brought together 28 Grade 10 students in the school’s Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Major, accompanied by two supervising teachers. Its purpose was to give students the opportunity to learn aerospace engineering principles and processes in an authentic learning environment, while gaining hands-on experience that they could connect with classroom content.

During the program, students explored the Design-Build-Fly process, which links idea development and design, prototype construction, and the application of knowledge to radio-controlled aircraft. This process helped them understand the relationship between theoretical concepts and real-world use, while cultivating their systematic thinking, problem analysis, engineering design, and teamwork skills.

Students and teachers also visited the Department of Aerospace Engineering’s laboratories to learn about the tools and equipment used in the field, as well as the nature of aerospace engineering work. Throughout the program, the atmosphere was filled with interest, enthusiasm, and collaborative learning.

The most exciting highlight was the flight competition among the student groups’ radio-controlled airplanes and gliders. This gave every group an important opportunity to test its work in real conditions. Students observed the flight results together, analyzed issues, and learned how design concepts and construction methods affect aircraft performance.

The competition was not focused solely on winning or losing. It was also a learning process that enabled students to appreciate teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, and the courage to experiment. The activity was filled with smiles, enjoyment, and pride in the work that everyone had helped create.

The Department of Aerospace Engineering hopes that the knowledge and experience students gained over these two days will provide an important foundation for further developing their creativity, problem-solving skills, and interest in aerospace engineering.
