Cross-disciplinary collaboration is already moving into a higher gear! After faculty members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Bangkhen visited the Faculty of Sports Science and Health at Kamphaeng Saen, a team of faculty members and researchers from Sports Science KPS paid a reciprocal visit to our Bangkhen campus’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. They met to define areas for deeper collaboration and prepare to take on joint research and innovation projects.

Key areas of initial research and innovation projects identified:
1. Medical & Vascular Engineering
- Predictive modeling for blood clot formation & automated blood pressure control devices
- Analyzing blood vessel elasticity from images and videos, including wall shear stress computation
2. Biomechanics & Rehabilitation
- Developing a NordBord testing device to assess muscle strength
- Converting electromyography (EMG) signals into estimates of actual muscle force
- Developing innovations for flat feet and knock knees using virtual reality to simulate muscle contractions for more precise treatment and rehabilitation
- Simulating bone resorption and formation under different types of loading, including modeling injuries to the lower back and ankle bones
3. High-Performance Racing & Driver Ergonomics (Dongtaan Racing × Sports Science)
- Training and enhancing the performance of Dongtaan Racing drivers in areas such as muscular conditioning, cognitive focus, decision-making, and reaction time
- Measuring brain activity using EEG and designing custom cockpits according to ergonomic principles
- Testing the tensile behavior of muscular tissue to improve athletes’ mobility
4. Advanced Testing & Simulation
- Collaborating on the use of a wind tunnel for aerodynamic analysis of athletes and vehicles
Next step:
In early November, the KU Mechanical Engineering team plans to visit the Kamphaeng Saen Campus to review its biomechanics testing equipment and advance the next phase of the joint projects, such as on-site facility inspections and laboratory technical alignments.
