Seminar on “From Vision to Reality: Curtin University’s Ascension to Top 1%”

On Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., at Kamphol Adulavidhaya Conference Room, Golden Jubilee Administration and Information Center Building, Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus, and online via Nontri Live, the International Affairs Division organized a seminar on the topic “From Vision to Reality: Curtin University’s Ascension to Top 1%,” delivered by Professor Mark Ogden, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Curtin University, Australia.

Professor Mark Ogden received his Ph.D. from the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1991. He then conducted postdoctoral work at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom and UWA before joining Curtin University in 1997. Professor Mark Ogden focuses on developing selective molecular interactions and has published over 160 research papers. He was appointed as a professor in 2009. Professor Mark Ogden has extensive teaching experience, teaching chemistry to over 10,000 students.

Before the seminar began, Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat, Acting President of Kasetsart University, presided over welcoming Professor Mark Ogden and his team. He then presented a souvenir and took a group photo. Professor Mark Ogden started with a lecture on the history and strengths of Curtin University, followed by the methods and pathways that enabled Curtin University to become one of the top 1% universities in the world, focusing on visionary leadership, strategic investments, commitment to quality, innovation, collaboration, and diversity.

Before concluding the seminar, Professor Mark Ogden provided an opportunity for participants in the lecture hall and online to ask questions. Participants inquired about various topics, such as strategies for improving teaching quality, challenges the university faces when establishing new faculties, and strategies for climbing global rankings. In conclusion, this seminar was not only suitable for senior leaders but also for academic administrators and policymakers.

This seminar exemplifies the strong relationship between Curtin University and the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University. In July 2023, they jointly organized a workshop and study tour on energy transition. Thirty-six students from both institutions visited key Thai energy companies, including EGAT Learning Center, Engineering Institute of Thailand, Nong Fab LNG terminal, and PTTEP Technology and Innovation Center. Faculty and staff participation further strengthened the universities’ collaborative ties.
