The Faculty of Engineering welcomed a delegation from CVAARRD Philippines to visit Chulabhorn Satellite Receiving Station (CSRS)

On June 1, 2023, Asst. Prof. Dr. Patamaporn Sripadungtham, Vice Dean for International Affairs, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orathai Chongprateep, Department of Materials Engineering, and Mr. Peerapol Phrompitakporn, Chulabhorn Satellite Station Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering, jointly welcomed executives and academics from Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (CVAARRD), Republic of the Philippines, led by Dr. Mildis M. Afidchao – CVAARRD Consortium Director, to visit the Chulabhorn Satellite Receiving Station on the top floor of the Department of Civil Engineering Building, with the station’s personnel joining in welcoming and introducing the center and various missions of the station.

The Chulabhorn Satellite Receiving Station (CSRS) is a collaboration between Thailand and China’s China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) and the China Center for Resource Satellite Data and Applications (CRESDA). It was constructed by Kasetsart University with support from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. The CSRS receives data directly from the SMMS satellite, capturing images up to 720 kilometers wide using a CCD color imaging device and a hyper-spectral imaging device with 115 frequency bands. This enhances Thailand’s ability to utilize satellite data for applications such as disaster management and mitigation, landslides, floods, droughts, and agricultural planning. The CSRS has conducted tests for receiving SMMS satellite data since February 28, 2011. Moreover, it collaborates with APSCO for landslide monitoring and warning using satellite data.
