KU welcomed a delegation from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia

On Wednesday, December 10th, 2024, at 1.00 p.m., Meeting Room No.9, 2nd floor of the Golden Jubilee Administration and Information Center Building, Kasetsart University Bangkhen Campus, Associate Professor Dr. Kampanat Pensupar, Vice President for International Affairs along with Assistant Professor Dr. Nadhawee Bunnag, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr.  Patamaporn Sripadungtham, Deputy Dean for International Affairs, Faculty of Engineering, and representatives of International Affairs Division, welcomed and discussed academic collaboration with an administrator from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, namely Professor Khaled Salama, Professor of Engineering and Computer Engineering and Bioengineering, on the occasion of visiting Kasetsart University.

Before the academic discussion, Associate Professor Dr. Kampanat Pensupar, Vice President for International Affairs provided a brief overview of KU. Subsequently, Professor Khaled Salama, Professor of Engineering and Computer Engineering and Bioengineering also provided a brief overview of KAUST. KAUST is a university founded in 2009 and ranked 101-200th university in the world (THE Impact Rankings 2023). It has outstanding academic publications in several fields such as Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics and Astronomy, etc. with over 1,530 students from 82 different nationalities. There are 3 divisions which are 1) Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering Division, 2) Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Science and Engineering, and 3) Physical Science and Engineering. Moreover, KAUST has run several interesting programs and provided scholarships to students. In the past year, KAUST awarded research scholarships to students with an interest in science and engineering (Visiting Student Research Program: VSRP) so that they could have an opportunity to conduct a research project with lecturers of KAUST and publish their work in a journal.

Consequently, Assistant Professor Dr. Patamaporn Sripadungtham, Vice Dean for International Affairs, Faculty of Engineering discussed the possibility of internship programs since the engineering programs of KAUST are similar to KU’s, symposium between two universities, and the visit of KU’s administrators and lecturers.

Following the discussion session’s conclusion, Professor Khaled Salama and colleagues from Kasetsart University’s Departments of Computer, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering engaged in an extensive exchange, delving into details about prospective activities designed for students specializing in integrated circuits and broader electronic fields. Furthermore, considerations were given to potential internships for students within computer engineering and mechanical engineering laboratories.
