The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), in collaboration with Kasetsart University’s Faculty of Engineering, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), is advancing a new approach to environmental stewardship. The partners organized a volunteer campaign titled “MFA No Mixed Waste” under the Sustainable Municipal Solid Waste Management Through Integrated Technologies in Bangkok project, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sri Ayutthaya Road in Bangkok, on 22 July 2026.
The event was honoured by the presence of Ms Apiradee Anukrahanon, Assistant Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, who presided over the opening ceremony. Also attending were Professor Dr Wanchai Yodsudjai, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Associate Professor Dr Chinnathan Areeprasert, project leader from Kasetsart University; and Dr Pairoj Saonuam, Deputy Manager of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation.
Together, they announced their commitment to waste separation, avoiding the mixing of waste, and applying aerated food-waste composting technology to manage food scraps in a model office building. The initiative also encouraged volunteer staff to maximize the value of waste at its source within the Ministry.
Three highlights of the event:
Practical “No Mixed Waste” techniques from the BMA: Mr Panuwat Onted, Director of the BMA’s Waste Management Strategy Office, delivered a special talk on Bangkok’s waste-management approach and the “No Mixed Waste” campaign, including easy and practical waste separation tips for both the workplace and home.
Handover of an aerated food-waste composting unit for the model office building: Participants tried out an innovation that converts food scraps from the cafeteria into soil conditioner, helping to reduce waste volume and greenhouse gas emissions in tangible ways.
Recycle waste for healthy rewards: Recycling becomes valuable — staff could exchange recyclable waste for cooking oil, plants, or eggs. This activity actively engaged Ministry personnel and promoted greater awareness of waste separation.
